Morning All,

Well due to an issue at the DRs with an appointment muck up i could not have my implant re-sited. So they handily gave me the depo injection to cover me until it can be done (Drs on leave ect)

All fine until this week (one and 1/2 week later) i have suddenly come up in huge red spots all along the underside of my jaw and slightly down into my neck. I remembered that the one other time i had Depo i got the same thing so i assume its hormone related....Maybe?

These are the red unheaded huge ones that are hot and sore. I don't normally suffer from spots and have not changed my routine (ocm evening/coal face morning)

Normally I would not have an issue as my hair would hide the beasts... but i got it all cut off the day before they gave me the injection so my neck is 'on show' if you will.

I am also away on a huge holiday in just over a week.... what can i do? what is the best method for drawing them out or fading them as they are very very obvious and really quite sore.

Thankful for any advice
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...

I haven't got any advice, but I feel your pain! As soon as I had my implant fitted I began getting these, usually under my ears, back of neck and chest. :( I keep "popping" them but they stay red and sore for days and days afterwards.
  • I sometimes found that Sudocrem or toothpaste popped on to the spot overnight helped to dry them up a bit.

    Fingers crossed for you, OP!

I use Boots Witch Hazel Gel also very cheap only £1.99 a tube. Try not to pick or squeeze them. I hope you have a great holiday and spots better by then have a fab time.

You can also try a teensy dab of tea tree oil - it seems to be quite strongly antiseptic and is available in little bottles
  • Don't really know what to suggest as I also suffer from them - but I'm not on any contraceptives so it's not necessarily the Depo or Implanon that cause them.

My only suggestion is to try not to squeeze them - they definitely go away quicker if they're left alone. I used to fiddle with them in an effort to 'infect' them so they develop a squeezable head (never again).

I discovered a brilliant concealer which I now rely on to cover the bloody things - Rimmel Match Perfection.

This is one of the side effects of the depo injection. The only way I could deal with them was by using a sterile needle to lance them so they drained.

After a year I stopped the injection as the side effects just got to much for me.

    Hi all,

    Bit of an update.

Did a bi carb/crushed asprin scrub and then face washed (both very gentle) yesterday before work then just put a light moisturiser on.

Got home put a clay based face mask (a cheap nut one from boots) on then left that for 40 mins. gave face a really good clean and then slathered it in coconut oil. then before bed washed it off and put a light but good moisturiser on.

This morning the spots are still there but its taken a great deal of the red and heat out of them.

Will repeat on Friday to see if that reduces the size.

I might try the scrub/clay mask as I get these sometimes and it's the heat that's awful.

Glad to hear you found something to help!

I dont post very often but i just wanted to add,
I am really sensitive to all hormone changes,
EVERY contraceptive that has any hormone causes me painful acne, (im 30)
even the mirena coil, so now im on the cooper coil which has no hormones and they have all but disapeared,
I was prescribed- duac cream, zineryt lotion and low dose antibiotic tablets for 6 months, nothing worked, until i ditched the hormones
all pills, and the injection also the implant, all caused bad spots
when I was pregnant/trying, or using barier methods I had zero spots,

    maybe try a diff contraception?

    Thanks all,

Lemon slice - this was a alternative to my implant. The GPs receptionist mucked up and scheduled the wrong DR and a too short appt time so i could not have my normal method.

The Depo was so i would be covered in the mean time while i had to wait for an alternate visit (quite a distance away as the GP was going on leave)

Next time i wont bother as its caused no end of Jip - i take that back an unexpected baby would cause a great deal more jip.

    :D
