Fantastic Win but Disappointing end (I want to cry!)

I got a phone call from Heat Magazine at 11am saying I've won a two night trip to Chicago to visit the Divergent film set! I got so excited I could hardly talk and then the lady said I have to go tomorrow!
Less than 24hours to go to America?! don't the promoters understand people work or have children? I had to turn the prize down and now I feel so depressed
I have been trying to win an American trip for almost 7 years I'm so upset

That's ridiculous! I couldn't even go somewhere in this country with 24hrs notice, never mind to the USA.

OMG that's horrible, you poor thing! The only thing I can think is that someone's pulled out last minute or something and you've been re-drawn the winner. Surely they'd planned to give more notice than that?!

Even though I don't have kids I wouldn't be able to pick up and go within 24 hours, people have jobs and commitments! I wonder if they managed to get someone in the end...

I really do feel for you though, I got a WEM saying i'd won a holiday to Barcelona a while back and it turned out to be an error, with everyone who entered getting the same email. I was absolutely gutted and it even put me off comping for a while too. Try not to let it get to you, fingers crossed you win something equally fantastic soon!

I think I remember this and remember thinking that's bad given an ESTA can take 72 hours to approve....I keep mine current just in case lol.

That's ridiculous - you have to have a valid ESTA (like a travel visa) to travel to the US now which means that you need to have at least 72 hours notice. Do the terms and conditions specify that there are fixed dates? I'd be inclined to take this up with the watchdog.

a) Round trip economy airfare for two (2) to O'Hare International Airport (ORD) departing from a major international airport closest to the winner's home on July 10, 2013, and returning on July 13, 2013;

b) Three (3) nights standard, double occupancy accommodation in a hotel as determined and selected by Entertainment One on July 10, 11 and 12, 2013;

It was a short comp I think..posted on Heatworld June 28th not sure of end date but it was always going to be short notice

Well done, but that's such a shame. Hope you can get a holiday win you can go on soon!

Personally, i try and avoid the holiday comps that have a set date you must travel on.
