mayhem on this forum already!!!!!!
I did not get holiday pay, it stated in my contract I was only entitled to 2 weeks which I already took. so when I told my employer they told me that I could not take any time off unless I was absolutely sick! they told me they may have a job for me but depends upon how the business is doing, so obviously its not doing well and had to let me go.
so back to the question in other words, I would be on basic rate of 20% until I hand in my p45? ...oh oh that's going to be hard work...getting back my p45...0 -
If OP you have earnings in this tax year from previous employment, this will have a bearing on how much tax you pay from this job as tax is calculated for a tax year april-April.0

Did you bother to read the answer in post #5?
If you provide a properly completed P46 (note the final digit) you do not pay 20% on everything.0 -

Two weeks holiday is not a full-year entitlement for any one.
So:
When did you start working there?
When does the holiday year start?0 -

If you do not have your P45 as yet speak to your new employer's payroll department. They will probably be recording you as a new starter online and provided they have confirmed with you that this is your only employment they can then use the emergency tax code of 944L and you will pay no tax. What you are thinking of as the emergency tax code is actually the tax code that is used if the emergency tax code cannot be used, these days 0T non-cumulative. Your new employer may already have asked you for the details they need but to be sure check with the payroll department. It is possible that using the emergency tax code you may be under-taxed if there is an overlap of tax allowances between employers but this will be sorted when the old employer figures are with the new employer and on the figures you have given this will soon be cleared and if tax was paid in your old employment there will be some due back to you.0 -

No. In the absence of a P45 you used to complete a P46. Apparently since April 2013, the P46 is no longer issued as Real Time Information is now used. Some employers are not using RTI yet.

If you give your employer the correct in formation you should be put onto the emergency code of 944L Week 1 which should see no tax taken.0 -
the reason why I ask this question is because, when I started my previous job I think I completed a p46, im not sure what form it was, but I do remember completing a form as I was on the emergency tax code of 0t, then when I gave them my p45, I got the tax refunded so I am just wondering whether this is this likely to happen again with super drug? the thing is I haven't signed anything with superdrug so that's why I don't know what to expect?
I think I maybe put on emergency tax code of 0t (which taxes me of basic rate) until they get a p45... or can anyone confirm this? then after a month I will get 944l or whatever the tax free allowance is deducted.0 -

0T is not the emergency tax code 944L is the emergency tax code. You do not need to sign a form your pay office just needs the details from you, then they can use the emergency tax code. Check with your payroll office to see if they have the details they need to use the emergency tax code.
It would help a great deal if you did not refer to 0T as the emergency tax code it gives other users of the forum the impression that the emergency tax code should be avoided, in fact if you cannot get on the correct tax code the next best option is the emergency tax code.0 -
its sorted, I think I know what to expect! thanks for all the posts!0
