when you sign up for a mortgage (a remortgage in this case) do you have a cooling off period where you have a right to cancel within so many days?
does this vary between different providers or is there an industry standard?
is there o fee within this period or again does this vary?
my girlfriend went into the halifax (who she was with anyway) and signed up to a 5 year fixed rate but i don't think it's very competitive. that was on the 30/5/07 but she hasn't received any documents in the post yet and can't find anything on their website.
can anyone help/advise?
thanks

Once the deal has been changed over then you are tied in - no cooling off period.
Im not sure what paperwork you would have received for a retention product but I would have expected some form of illustration and offer for your girlfriend to have signed and agreed to the conditions of such product?
I am not clear from your message whether she has just verbally agreed on 30/5 or actually been transferred onto product from 30/5?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. i think she did sign something but they did say she would receive some documents in the post, until you get them stating all the terms and conditions i thought there might be some sort of cooling off (cancellation) period?
her next payment (of the new amount) is due 23rd June0 -
i would call the halifax tomorrow and try and gain some clarification as it seems as though somethings not arrived or there has been a misunderstanding/miscommunication.
