To me it's not realy a case of 'getting hooked' but one of 'needing' the medication.
We hear so much in the press about people who are 'hooked' on this or that - and I'm certain it does happen. But, why do you think it's going to happen to you right now? You're not giving yourself a chance. It may me that you do need meds long term in order to balance out seratonin levels in the brain. But equally, you may just need a 'boost' to get you through this tough patch.
Once you start to feel a bit beter about life you will be more inclined to go out a do things - so that's excersise that you're not getting right now. You need o sort out the inside before you start worrying about the outside.
As for the last posters comment on healthy eating and excercise - if only it were that easy, right!!!?Scrappie

I am soooo pleased to hear you say this. As I mentioned earlier, I have had long-term depression rather than "just" anxiety and the meds have been my life-saver. They have been the key to "opening up" my life again, allowing me to do things I thought I'd never do again. BUT it took a long time to move on from tiny successes. Even now I lead a quiet life but I'm happy in my own way !!
There is such a wealth of personal experiences on this thread, I do hope it helps you. It certainly helps me, even now, to talk about what I've been through, so thanks to you all. (sorry to sound corny again !)

I have read books in the past which have helped me so much yet this current period of anxiety is so intense that i can't even get round to do anything to help myself when it is occurring
Today has been a slightly better day ,maybe cause i shared what i'm going through with othersJane-boots wrote: »Been perscibed Paroxetine .
Any one had experiance of this drug ....bit scared to take itJane-boots wrote: »I am going to try and cope without the meds ,hopefully this C.B.T will help
I did'nt mention to GP about not wanting Meds (the last few days i have been quite desparate to shift these feeling )
You should be looking for the gain that you are getting from your situation and then changing thatI like to give people as many choices as possible to do what I want them to. (Milton H Erickson I think)0 -
I take a herbal remedy for anxiety "rhodiola rosea" and have had good results
I have propanalol if things are really bad but take fewer than 20 a yearI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Some really good posts on this thread! I use camomile tea somrtimes, it works for a heightened state of anxiety (as well as aiding sleep - don't worry you won't fall asleep if you drink it during the day!) There is a really nice one by Twinings with Camomile & honey, it also has vanilla in it. It's much nicer than plain camomile tea x0

I was in a car accident five months ago. I am now receiving aggressive therapy for PTSD and depression. I am on meds, but still cannot focus on anything, I cry almost all the time, am frightened of everything so I don't go outside unless I really have to. My existence has become, well, pitiful. I can't muster up the will to function much of the time.
Please, if you know you need help, get it sooner rather than later. I wish I had.0 -
I was somewhat apprehensive about medication, but the difference it can make is incredible. I used to have severe anxiety and was prescribed diazepam, within 1 hour of taking it my anxiety had completely gone and I felt relaxed. Pregabalin has a similar effect but takes a couple of hours longer to set in. I can just take it when I need it, so there's no need to take medication all the time.
I had tried all the standard antidepressants, but at normal dosages they had no effect on me at all.0
