Swimwear Issues

Comments

  • I'm a 32G and i've just had this issue as I wanted a couple of bikinis for my holiday this week. In the end I went to Bravissimo - they are expensive but my mum paid for one for my birthday present and i forked out for the other. The way I see it they will last me a few years and the cost is no more than a week's food shopping when you put it in context (going on an all-inclusive holiday so no food to buy for the next 2 weeks :D)

I really wanted 2 or 3- at £30 pounds just for a top makes me want to cry! :(

Buy a plain coloured top and different coloured/ patterned bottoms - problem solved! ;)

Brastop every time for me. They've got a swimwear sale on at the moment:

I find Curvy Kate brand to be a really good fit - and far nicer on than they often look in the pictures. I also think that if you've got a great figure (ok, one that admittedly needs great engineering) be prepared to spend a bit more than you might otherwise do to get yourself something that you're comfortable - and fabulous - in. When I find bras I like, for example, if I ever see them in a sale, I tend to buy multiples, and stock up for a couple of years. The boobs aren't going anywhere so I might as well get on with it, get them slung in to something I like and that works for me, and spend a bit less on something else that matters less to me. (My flat-chested friend is jealous because I get some great dresses in the sales, as designers like Phase Eight design for hour-glass shape figures; she says nothing in the sales racks ever fits her. We're just never satisfied, whatever shape we are, it seems!)

Have any ladies tried wearing men's swim jammers as the bottom of bikinis? I saw someone on a beach wearing something this length and want one too, but the only ladies' ones I have managed to find have iffy reviews about the cloth and are twice the men's price. I would welcome any suggestions about sizing - I was wondering about measuring at the hipbones and then drawing the waist in?

Depends on style/level of support you need... I am a FF cup but a size 6, so as you can imagine it is tough getting the right size - lots of places don't do small enough to fit my rib cage as they tend to start at 30" or size 8. If you can do without underwiring, my tip would be mixing and matching from places like Accessorize, Topshop and Primark - I buy a size 6 bottom and a size 12 top and this usually works well for me (provided the top isn't a clasp fasten, of course!). I find that bikinis generally only last me a year or two before they're past their best, regardless of whether they're cheap or expensive brands, so for me the Bravissimo/Figleaves option would work out very pricey (if I could even get my size to start with).

George at Asda have some nice ones available in a E/F cup, and they don't cost the earth either. You can order online if you don't have a George department nearby. They also do bottoms separately.

  • M&S, Asda and Tesco do E and F cups. It is a pretty common size!
It isn't a common size if you try and get a 28-32 back. 32ff is hard to find if you don't want to pay loads.
  • I've bought quite a few name brand swimsuits, such as Panache & Triumph, on eBay. There's usually a great selection, especially for separates.
From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!

Try asos they have a dd+ range and not too expensive
  • My friend had the same problem. In the end she ended paying a lot of money for one from figleaves.

If you have Tesco clubcard vouchers, last time I checked you can double their value as a Figleaves voucher (I.e. £10 Tesco club card points = £20 Figleaves).
