Hi Guys
Myself and girlfriend have been living in our new mortgaged home for approx 14 months now and we have been having problems swapping are current loan of £17000 to a new bank with a better rate. I have had the equifax report back and it says I have a good credit rating, I am now awaiting my experian.
We have been receiving alot of mail addressed to the previous owner, which we have been putting back in the post as "no longer at this address" but they keep coming. I opened a couple up (naughty I know) put there is mass debt, I mean thousands that he owes. Will this affect my credit rating, and if so what can I do about it? Thanks in advance.

No, it shouldn't affect your rating, as far as I am aware (unless they are counting the previous occupant as a know associate of yours - which is rare) . I would however contact the company with a letter asking them to stop contacting your address, and tell them you have no forwarding address for their borrower.DFW #414, MoneySaver, Income Booster

Be very careful when it comes to opening mail not addressed to you. I had a problem tenant who used a property to commit fraud. He did a runner and left me with a lot of debt and no forwarding address. I openedd a few letters and finally went to the police when it was obvious he had used the place to try and obtain money and was told that I was the onew breaking the law for even opening them!
To answer your question it will not effect your credit rating at all unless you are connected (by name or marriage normally). THere is no address blacklist and the credit ratings work on peoples name and NOT address.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

It could be as simple as the fact you've just moved - that happened to me, I got turned down for a card, got my credit reports just to check, rang the provider who said 'well you have just moved house' No idea why that made me a bad risk... still, a bit pleading and they relented, but I also found with credit cards that I got offered lower limits than before the move.
Anyone able to explain why moving (this was the first time I'd moved in 14 years, not like I'm off every few months) should affect your credit?0 -
dunc, I'd suggest it's the new mortgage that's holding up your credit. when I'd newly bought my place I was turned down for much lesser credit limits than you'd applied for and told it was due to the fact of the new mortgage. I'm not entirely sure how that works, perhaps they want to check that you can pay the mortgage ok before lending more to you???? who knows, but I second the suggestions above about sending back the mail.0
