Default help

Hi, before becoming a full time student I was working full time and had a couple of credit cards and a loan, however whilst being a student I just couldn’t afford to keep up the repayments. I went to my local citizen’s advice office, who helped me negotiate token payments with each debtor.

I have now graduated and am looking to move house, I currently have a mortgage, but have discovered that I have three defaults on my credit file. The total of these debts is ~ £8000, and I would really like to move before paying them off as nearest town (where all the jobs are) is a three hour round trip.

Is there anyway to move the debts to a different address so they no longer appear on my credit file? I have two relatives who have agreed that I can use their addresses for correspondences.

the defaults are against you as an individual not the address ( a common misconception) they'll find them when you apply for any credit as they ask you for your personal details too , i.e name and date of birth besides it's technically fraud to lie about your current details

flaura's right, the debts belong to you, not to your home, so whenever you are credit searched, they will appear.

Some lenders will still offer you a mortgage when you have defaults/ccjs, it just means you will be paying a higher interest rate.

Thanks for the replies, its annoying, even when I phone my current mortgage provider, with who I've never missed a payment, it was just a case of 'computer says no.'

Theres no chance to explain why I couldn't pay my debts.

I suppose I'll just have to put up with a higher rate which means I'll not be able to get as nice house as I wanted for the same monthly outgoing :(
