Personally, I cannot think of any circumstances in which I would advise someone to resign, and certainly not in response to being investigated in connection with a grievance made against that person, or for being disciplined in accordance with the company's disciplinary procedure .Resigning is almost always the wrong thing to do from an employment and benefits point of view, and it reduces any prospect of success in an employment tribunal to less than 3%.
As for whether the employer acted morally - I don't really understand the question. Sorry I am not being deliberately obtuse, but the only thing that matters is that the employer must behave lawfully and in accordance with its general obligations under the law and under the contract of employment. It sounds to me that this employer has done everything by the book. You and/or others may or may not think the employers actions are immoral but frankly that is subjective and also irrelevant.I'm a retired employment solicitor.
