Another recommendation for Monsoon here - I got married in a Monsoon dress (Waterlily) last week :) it was light and floaty, and somewhat empire line. Pic:

I love it so much

I was going to say monsoon but see im a bit late. I don't have the figure for those types of dresses but they do have some very pretty dresses. Monsoon also do many sales throughout the year, although if you see 'the one' only you know if its worth the gamble to wait for a sale. Top cash back usually have a monsoon offer though.

I would suggest buying a few different magazines and sitting down and going through them. I found this easiest with a glass of vino & my best friend when DH was out or away with work ;)

When you see a designer you like, make a note of the website and have a look at their range, then if you see anything you like, look where your nearest stockist is.

Also, you will probably need to visit more than one shop - unless you are lucky!

    Hi All,

I am a very old poster who lurks more than she reads! We got engaged last weekend and are hoping to get married Sept/Oct next year.

I'm based in Bristol and went to a little wedding boutique in the suburbs yesterday for a look. To be honest I found the whole experience a little depressing although the ladies in the shop were lovely. All the dresses were just so huge and heavy, very ornate and fancy and just a million miles away from what i am looking for. Even those in the style I wanted (mermaid/fit and flair/empire line with a floaty/pretty feel) were just very heavy and I felt like the dresses were wearing me! I'm not very tall and around a 8/10 and I just felt overwhelmed and hot in everything I tried.

So now I'm wondering if this is just what all wedding dresses are like or whether this particular shop (the dresses I chose were all around £1k) just has expensive, beautiful but very heavy, elaborate dresses and that I need to look elsewhere!

Would I be better getting something more lightweight and floaty from the high street or maybe Milly Bridal / Light in the box?

Or does anyone know of a Bristol / SW shop that has more dresses in the styles I want that aren't so huge and heavy (and expensive!)? I have looked on the high street and seen some nice dresses so maybe I need to go and try some on!

    With thanks,

    Minxystar

PS Fiance pointed out last night that we went to 8 shops looking for my engagement ring so maybe I just need to try lots of different bridal shops!! :-)

I know exactly how you feel! I'm a size 6/8 and petite (i.e. short!!) and I have yet to try on a dress that doesn't feel like it's wearing me, rather than me wearing it... And don't get me started on the price...! I'm going to be looking at high street shops this weekend though, so hopefully will find something that's both lighter and cheaper.
