Land Registry

I just got married about 2 weeks ago, so am in the process of changing my name on everything.

The mortgage is in both our names, but obviously it is in my maiden name so I need to change that, and I've read something somewhere that you need to change it on the land registry too, is that right? I didn't realise it would be so complicated, it seems like a solicitor has to fill in part of the forms off the land registry site. I'd be grateful if someone could explain it abit better, and if there is anyone else in relation to the house/mortgage that needs to know.

From the mortgage point of view, it'll just be a matter of the lender updating it's records with your new name. When I was a working for a big lender, in this type of circumstance we didn't have a requirement for the Land Registry to be amended too, so I think it's at your discretion whether or not you change your name at the LR.

I've just looked at the Land Registry website, and it seems you don't need a solicitor to act for you, you can do it yourself with a form AP1.

If I were you, I'd just complete the form and send the proof of name that they require, much easier and cheaper than messing around with solicitors!

Thanks Goldiegirl! :) So does changing your name with the land registry only need changed if you wanted to apply for another mortgage?

I printed off those forms, the AP1 and the other one they mentioned as well, and just skimmed over the website quickly, and I thought I'd read that a solicitor had to fill in a 'part B' on one of the forms? I must have read it wrong though.

I've decided to change it after all. I just saw that other thread and it got me thinking about wether or not I really did want to change it, as it was something I had been debating about for a while.

Tbh I wasn't overly bothered about taking my husbands name, and he wasn't that fussed either, and while it may be a big deal to some women, I really wasn't that fussed either way.

So I went about changing it, and when I realised all the places I had to contact, I started to think it would just be easier keeping my maiden name, plus, I missed it already :rotfl: Also, my husbands name is a pita to sign compared to my old name, and nobody seems to be able to say it or spell it, and it really isn't that difficult tbh!

But, anyhow, as they say, in for a penny, in for a pound!
