According to the very nice SA on the clothing department in my local store (superstore), the 4p items go into a cage in the back and every few months someone comes along to collect them from a charity. She said sometimes if they only have a small amount of items, they go to a larger store for collection.[

I am with you on this one ,not sure about the compactor idea as when I am on my trawl of charity shops which incidently is very frequent I am always coming across 4p items I have purchased previously in T's being sold in them
