My neice had what was called an underbite (think bottom jaw sticking out more than top) and it seemed to be getting worse. SIL and her family were living in France at the time and orthodentist advised a kind of clear full face mask that would eventually make the jaws re align. Neice had to wear it at night and boy, did she hate it. Anyway, everybody persevered telling her it would be worth it - and she is now a beautiful young lady with perfectly aligned jaws. If left it would have gotten worse. Just read similar situation of a girl in this country who has gone through some excruciating stuff having her jaws surgically re aligned.
Hopefully she will get as good a result as my neice but in some ways we seem to be so far behind other countries.
Sounds amazing!! I had an underbite and had to undergo 6 years of braces and 2 operations (1 of which was 6 hours long and left me in Intensive care!!) I still would rather have had the surgery than lived with my Jaws how they were, but the facemask sounds amazing!!Light Bulb Moment 29/03/10!!Starting Fresh to get my house and finances sorted! 02/02/120 -

Oh dear CCL - the face mask was as you can imagine really really uncomfortable for my neice to wear and she was only 7 at the time so you can imagine the battles that SIL & BIL had with her. However she stuck with it for the 3 - 4 years that her jaw was growing with the mask having to be re made every 6 months or so. IMO its an awful thing but preferable to what you went through. Can totally understand your thoughts re the surgery but if it was an option in France why the heck not in UK.
I am glad that you are happy with the outcome of your surgery.0 -

Hope when surgery does go ahead for her that it goes well. Think she will need to be very brave - wish she could have had my neices option. I wish her all the best.0 -
