BR tax code

Hi I earn £22,100 in my main post, I have a 2nd job working bank shifts 3 Sundays a month and up until April I had a tax code of O818L0 and BR for my 2nd job. I paid roughly £240 tax pm on my main post and £16-£18 ow on the 2nd post. Average weekly wage is
£110 .
Tax office switched codes in April and I was paying £400+ tax and a BR on my main post but that has all been sorted now but over the past 4 weeks my take home pay has been reduced to £35 -£45 ow.on 2nd job.
Can anyone explain.

It would be helpful if you would now state the codes operated at each employment. However it would appear that, while the main job tax has been rectified to compensate the extra tax deducted to date, a reciprocal effect may be happening at your second job. Too much tax at your main job - now rectified. Too little tax at the second job - likewise!

My new code for main post is 334L. I will now at the end of July how much tax I will be paying. I got my payslip for 2nd job today and out of £147my take home pay is £55 - £110.60 in tax.

What tax code was being used?

Can you also provide the total gross to date and total tax to date?

It looks like HMRC have 'covered' your second job with part of your allowances and set the remainder against your main job. However as you earn £22k from your main job I would be asking HMRC to allocate all of your allowances against this job and to to ask that code BR be applied against your second job. This will ensure that the correct tax is deducted. The option chosen by HMRC does involve an estimate of your secondary earnings and may not prove to be accurate.

Which would be correct for a 2nd income. However more tax was taken, probably to correct from the previous month/s but you haven't supplied the figures I asked for to check.

Main question now is why is your code for your main job only 334L. What was the explanation given on the P2 Coding Notice?

On my main post of £22.000 I have been paying £400 pm tax since April 13 and on my 2nd post they were using a tax code of 335L and as I have already stated a BR code on my main post.
I also receive a state pension of £6100 pa.

You're not answering the questions asked of you. Tax is all about detail and we can't help unless you supply that detail.

It is likely that you paid more tax than the BR code would take on its own as it was taking tax owed from the previous month/s when you were on the 334L code. However we can't tell for sure unless you provide these figures from your 2nd income payslip.

    1. Gross pay to date
    2. Gross tax to date.

You will receive a tax refund on your main income and if you supply the same figures we might be able to tell you what.
I also receive a state pension of £6100 pa.

That would account for the 334L code assuming you are under age 66. Tax free allowance is £9440 - £6100 state pension = £3340 which translates to a tax code of 334L.

Which is now correct for a BR tax code.
