Paying Tax question - Advice required

Hi

A friend of mine has a full time job and an evening part time job.

Recently the employer of the part time job sold the business. The new owner has kept the 10 members of staff on.

However the previous owner would calculate the tax for each employee and deducted this and declared it all through the books.

The new owner has decided not to do this and are paying cash in hand and not deducting tax. They say this is up to the 10 members of staff to do for themselves.

My friend is not happy doing this. Can anyone suggest what responsibility the employer has to do this and is it something that is legit?

All advice and suggestions appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I can not think of any conceivable reason that this is legit.

If it were me, I'd shop them to HMRC because at the end of the day it is the law abiding tax-payer that pays for it at the end of the day.

This is definitely not legal..they need shopping to HMRC and also they probably don't have any public liability insurance or other things are amiss!!!
