    that is interesting. i didn't realise - due to privacy and data protection etc - that they can see everything.

    when you say credit - do you mean the actual amount spent on a credit card or the actual credit available to you. It's just that I have quite a few cards with big credit levels - that I never use. They were previous 0% rate cards that I used and then left once the 0% ran out.

    All credit you have held will be shown on the file for 6 years after being settled.

    Sometimes lenders don't report to all credit reference agencies but generally all will be seen.

    Not disclosing credit accounts on an application will lead to issues as the lender will class as non disclosure and question at best, decline at worst.

    If you never use the cards then you may as well close them down, just keep 1 or 2 that you actually use. It could have a negative impact in the eyes of some lenders having tens of thousands of available credit card finance.

    There is also the risk of fraudulent use of the card which you might not notice as you dont use it, its just best to close the lose ends.
