I have just been made redundant from my main job & in my second job (which will now become my main job) I dont earn enough on PAYE to pay NI. I already self assess due to other income but do I need to start paying class 2 contributions?

That's up to you to decide.
You have to pay NI contributions if your niable incomes are greater than the limit.
What is the source of your other income and if it is from self-employment, is it above the limit? If it is below the limit you still have to pay class 2 but you may claim exemption. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Before deciding you need to check if you are covered by your second job. Earnings under the Lower earnings limit currently £109 a week have no NI deducted and mean you are not covered for any contributory benefits. Earnings over the Primary threshold currently £149 a week have NI deducted and cover you for the contributory benefits. Earnings between £109 and £149 a week have no NI deducted but you are treated as if it has been deducted. So not paying NI does not always mean you are not covered.I have just been made redundant from my main job & in my second job (which will now become my main job) I dont earn enough on PAYE to pay NI.
