Changing mortgage to fixed rate with bad credit

Hi there,

Sorry if this post has already been discussed but I couldn't see what I was looking for anywhere.

I have a mortgage with Northern Rock which I took out around 6 years ago. My credit, since this time, has became quite poor. I meet all my payments etc. but I've checked my score with Experian and its listed as 'Very Poor' (it is, albeit very slowly, improving).

I think it would be wise to change my mortgage to fixed rate to avoid any disasters in the near future. It's flexible at the moment and at the height of the market went up by about £200. I could never afford this if it happened again. I'm wondering what my options are as I assume any change in my mortgage would involve a credit check? Am I stuck? Or would Northern Rock (or Virgin as I think it now is) consider changing my mortgage based on the fact that I've always met my payments and such?

Ring Virgin and ask what mortgage products they can offer you. As your existing lender there's no credit check to be performed.
