Where to learn to play piano in the midlands?

Hi,

My little girl, who is 6 years old would like to learn to play the piano.
Does anybody know a place/tuitor that offers piano lessons that they could recommend in the West Midlands area?

Thanks

Stuz

    Hi,

I had some lessons from the following tutor.

    She's very good and patient.

Use this site to find teachers

    http://www.musicteachers.co.uk/

Ask at music shops (ideally specialist piano retailers) in your nearest town or city.

Does her school have a music dept., or any visiting music teachers?

Do you know anyone currently playing or learning, who could point you at their teacher(s)?

It would help to know more exactly where you are - little value in recommending a teacher in Shrewsbury if you're on the other side of Birmingham ...

    We've come across http://www.promusictuition.com/

    Anybody heard of them before?
  • (So my brain read that URL as 'promiscuity-ition' first, which hmm, seems a bad marketing angle... )

    Ahem. Sorry.

My 6 year old is about to start on the ukulele. Before I engage a teacher, I am going to start her with a book/video instruction I got from Amazon, and then maybe show her some free YouTube videos. If she is still interested after those, I'd be open to hiring a teacher.

I've found with that age their enthusiasm to learn a new 'thing' (an instrument, ballet, etc) often wanes after they actually try the learning more than once or twice.

In conclusion: maybe search for some YouTube videos first?

Mary, it's a thread about piano tuition. Maybe you should start a new thread about Ukes....
  • Er... googler, she's not talking about a specific instrument but about childhood enthusiasms and alternative possibilities for learning an instrument.

... little of which is relevant to 'where to learn to play piano in the midlands', surely?
  • Would have replied earlier but been practising the flute...

In the meantime, whilst the OP is finding a teacher why not harness the kid's enthusiasm and get her using other ways of independent learning. Nobody is going to get anywhere on just an hour of formal tuition a week anyway..

I'm sorry if you feel slightly tangential contributions are not wanted, but it's what makes most internet boards interesting.
