Are Close Motor Finance also charging fees? I had finance arranged through them (I bought a car 6 hours away), but when I got around to reading the contract, I had been charged a £200 arrangement fee and £130 for something else.
I cancelled the agreement when I got home and got a loan from Santander for half the price and without the fees.

    Hi.

Well I got a quotation (credit check) over phone because the car is over an hour away from me so I havn't seen any paperwork yet.
I'm going to take the car for a test drive tomorrow and if everything is ok, will then inspect the paperwork.
If I notice anything untoward, I will have no qualms about walking away from it.

If he wants to make a sale, then it's on my terms, not his........

On that agreement, there will be a £199.00 facility fee and a £134.00 option to purchase fee. Both fees are included in the APR and are included in the monthly payments (spread across the term of the agreement).

Have you tried doing a softsearch on Nationwide to see what kind of APR that throws up. If a dealer offers you a half decent rate then other lenders may be happy to do so to.

    :D

    Well.....

A hundred mile round trip for nothing!

Car was spot on, perfect and a good example but, after the test drive, I sat down to discuss finances and check over the paperwork.

Threre were two service stamps missing so wasn't a "full service history" as described.
The salesman tried to reassure me that it was just a missing page and that it has just been misplaced but I won't spend almost 7k on a car with F.S.H so I said i'm not interested and walked away.

The salesman followed stressing that the missing info will be found and I will be contacted as soon as it is found........ we will see.

I'm gutted because the car was perfect but I won't take risks when it comes to buying a car.

Will post again IF they get in touch and IF I decide to give them a second chance.

Guess I need to start looking around again. But its a wasted search and offer of credit so i'm upset about that too!!! :(

We're there no receipts in the pile which could substantiate the claim?

I'd much rather see receipts and reports than a stamp on a book. The salesman has all but admitted he is going to knock up a couple of stamped pages

There were no stamps at all which threw me straight away but he then produced a printout of the services.
The 37.5k service and 50k service were printed (in extreme detail I might add) but the 12.5k and 25k services page was missing....

The cars they sell are all ex company cars from a large company called Carillion and therefore MUST be serviced properly but for some strange reason, they didn't have that missing page?

Maybe they could contact Carillion head office and have the info reproduced??

The printout was on headed paper from Carillion too...

of course, the cheapest option is to stick to a car you can afford and pay it outright

Decent advice, but not exactly answering the question is it?

Carillon are the construction arm of what used to be Tarmac, so big firm, however there's no guarantee that a stupid manager, rep or whoever was running the car may not have bothere'd to get it serviced, shouldn't happen but doesn't mean it can't happen.

Given its the original early services that are missing and most recent ones are there, then sounds as though it is a missing page.

I might be tempted to try and get a decent reduction on this, if the stamps show a dealer then there's a good chance you could get confirmation of the others form there as people tend to use teh same local dealer for company cars.
  • Personally, I would look with the dealer as that way the finance is secured on the car, which (usually) allows for better rates. Also, some dealers offer discounts for taking finance, especially on new cars.
