Jo Jo - did you actually have an offer of employment in writing from them? I read it that you didn't but your last post makes me wonder.

The 3 or 4 day week seems a bit of a red herring as was anything you discussed at interview.

If you had an unconditional offer of employment in writing and you accepted in writing then you were safe to resign and if the prospective employer rescinded the job offer after that and the HR person has been dismissive. Then you could complain to the CEO and ask for money for the notice period in the employment contract in compensation.
