  • There's a recipe for honey flapjacks by celia brooks on the bbc website (I can't post the link because I'm a newbie- sorry)

The trick seems to be baking at 180oc until golden at the edges and still squidgy in the middle.

Go shopping occasionally just before your local supermarket shuts for the reduced price food. Ours does quite a lot of meat, so I usually end up with something for pound that would cost 5 normally. Or good quality sausages for the price of really cheap ones, or something like that.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've recently let my shopping bill creep back up ... I usually budget £65 for 2 adults and 1 toddler still in nappies but whilst I have been stocking up on various things it has been creeping to the £100 a week mark ... very easy to do when you aren't keeping track.

My supermarket very rarely offers good ys offers whilst I am there but when they do I really do stock up :) My hubby is a big meat eater too and we have meat with all our meals.

My tip - if you cut the meat really small there looks loads of it for very little ... I used to use 1lb meat in a stew and now that stew meat does 2 stews. I do the same with chicken currys and things - 1 chicken breast does us all a meal :)

Going to meal plan again - even though money isn't tight it is still good to practice common sense on not spending too much.

My other recommendation is cooking good food on a budget by Mark Keogh www.ckmhome.com he did costings and things on his menu plan for 3 for about £30 a week.

Little changes are the best - trying to do too much too soon isn't always good.

also has budgeting advice. The apple cake is really really good.
I'm sure if you were a bit internet savvy, you'd be able to find it to download somewhere for no pennies.....or something :)

I noticed one of your luxuries is H&S shampoo, I used to use the same but changed to TOsco own brand 99p for 200ml. I find it better than H&S.
I have used other supermarket dandruff stuff and found them useless but the TOsco one is the bomb. You also need very little of it too.

I used to use the posh tea bags too but am a total convert to SAinsbuggs cheapies. Best I have ever tasted.

Every little is better in my purse than the shop till.

Thank you for the advice Bluebag, I have tried, I even put it into a H&S bottle but my partner gets an itchy head after a while so back to H&S , I buy it in bulk when its offer

Teabags - Sainsbugs is too far away , so wouldn't be cost effective to get them, but I will pick some up if I am near one next time and try them, thank you :)

    well done :T Shoey

I also bake a lemon curd cake on a sunday(recipie on here somewhere - thanks ;)) and this lasts the week for the boys packed lunches and it actually gets more moist the older it gets
Not sure if I am doing the same recipe, it is one I got off of here but can't find it now.

I've made it twice and although it tastes very nice, the first time I cooked it at 200 degrees and it started to go brown very quickly but the inside wasn't cooked so tested it and the middle sunk.

This time I cooked on lower heat but again the middle sunk.

    What am I doing wrong.

    This is the recipe

    Moist Lemon Cake
Heres one of our family favourites i tend to double up the amount and openfreeze slices of the cake that way the teenager doesn't eat it all and i alwayshave cake on hand for packed lunches last time i costed the recipe it was about65p to make makes 8-10 slices

    Ingredients

    100g margarine
    75g caster sugar
    2 eggs
    175g self-raising flour
    1 jar lemon curd(smartprice/value is fine )
    1 level teaspoon baking powder

    Method

    1. Pre heat the oven to 200 degrees centigrade. Grease a 2lb loaf tin

    2. Place all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix together for about 5 minutes

    3. Pour the cake mixture into the prepared tin level the top.

    4. Bake for approximately 40 minutes until browned.

This cake gets moister the longer you leave it, if you can!!!

I have done a version using cocoa and marmalade as a chocolate orange caketoo."
