Why was my thread removed? :(

I posted a thread about another forum I use...being the gaming section of MSE I thought people might be interested in it.
How come it was deleted? Am I not allowed to share sites that people might be interested in?

I didn't see the thread. Perhaps it was considered to be an advertisement and was removed for that reason? From what I've seen, generally, sharing links that are related to specific discussions is considered acceptable but starting a thread only to provide a link to another website that isn't directly related to moneysaving is usually considered advertising which is against the forum rules.
However, if you disagree (because as I say, I didn't see the thread so I don't know of its content) then this excerpt of the forum rules might interest you...
If you disagree with a Forum Team decision, please email your appeal to webmaster@moneysavingexpert.com. Please don't question Forum Team decisions on the public forum; they're unlikely to see your post anyway. This includes criticising individual members of staff. It's our job as an employer to protect our staff. Any such posts shall be removed, and the appropriate action taken.
Best thing to do, if you feel this removal was unfair, would be to appeal to that email address but I wouldn't recommend continuing to post on this thread because, as you can see, they don't like people starting threads such as these.0 -

Cheers, sorry I didn't realise! I only come on here occassionally so not familar with all the rules. I'll email them now0 -
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/forum-faqs#company'Advertising' includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites or blogs you or friends are involved with (whether you’re selling something or not); or linking to your eBay or other auction sales.
That's why your post was removed.
I got caught with the same thing when I mentioned the gaming site I am involved with - my post was also deleted.
Maybe if MSE made their Forum Guide FAQs a bit shorter then it would help users to understand and not break the rules. That's a very long FAQ page to read and digest!0 -
Haha I can't use that excuse because I've never actually read them! I don't use the site enough
I'm not involved with it...I just use it and I'm registered with it. I can't imagine that it's as wide sweeping as you can't link to a website that you're registered with, because that would rule out a hell of a lot. If I posted a link to MSE on their forum (I think I have done in the past) they wouldn't bat an eyelid0 -

So, read the rules and if in doubt, ask the MSE team.0 -
That's odd that a link you provided was the reason for deletion.
I have posted many a link on many a thread about different topics, as have others.
I don't see why a link in general would be a problem, dependent upon the link obviously. When people ask for information, often a link is a good way to give them what they wanted, and more on the same topic.
Oh well, like you say it may be starting a thread with a link is different to giving information with a link.0 -
I believe it is as wide sweeping as that. Although other sites may be happy to link to MSE, I don't think the reverse applies when it comes to other communities.
Clearly "involved with" does not mean use or a member of.
IMO it was rightly removed because it sounds like to was an ad to get people to use that site, a bit rude to post an ad to another site, using this site to do it and then complain when it was removed...some cheek that.
Would you stand in Burger king and shout McDonalds is over the road! and then complain if you were asked to leave.0 -

I wasn't advertising anything! The only similarity between the two sites is that they're both forums! This one is about money saving the other about gaming.
It's more like standing in Burger King and shouting Boots is over the road. I wasn't even complaining, I was just wondering why.
Also it wasn't just my thread that was removed, it was a post in another thread which was specifically related to the site I was mentioning (the trophy hunting thread, it's a trophy hunting site). Maybe they just have beef with PS3T I dunno!0
