Radio Downloader is no more; is there an alternative?

Options
I see from some older threads that several people have also used Radio Downloader to download BBC radio programmes which are not available as podcasts.

Unfortunately the developer has been told by the BBC to withdraw the facility, so until the BBC eventually make all radio programmes available for download I'm wondering whether anyone has found an alternative program.

I appreciate that it's possible to play back a program using the BBC radio player and record it in real time, but the beauty of Radio Downloader was that it would do it at faster-than-real-time, and if you subscribed to a particular programme it would automatically download it every time an edition was available.

I'm not aware of any other programs which can do this but I thought I'd ask here in case anyone knows of one. I'd also be interested to know why the BBC are dragging their heels on this and the best they can do is to say that downloads will be available in 2014 - so possibly still 18 months away.

Thanks both - I've managed to get it up and running, although I needed to read through the Digital Spy thread mentioned by alanrowell first.

I still think Radio Downloader was superior in several ways, but Get iPlayer will fill the gap nicely until the BBC get their act together.

I don't want to diminish the sheer usefulness of Matt's Radio Downloader, but since I uninstalled it my PC seems to be booting and running a fair bit faster.

I was an original GiP user when it was just a DOS box and it seemed to stop working quite frequently, weather it was due to BBC tinkering I don't know. That was the main reason I switched to RD.

GiP seems to be working OK at the moment so fingers crossed.
