Incorrect Mortgage Rate with NRAM

Just looking for any advice please. In February 2012 NRAM wrote to me to advise me that because my fixed plan was ending my interest rate was increasing to 4.49% with immediate effect. This meant an increase of £266 per month. I just went along with until last week they wrote to me to advise that this had been a mistake on their behalf and they should never have increased it and have reduced my rate back down to 2.99% and my payments by £266 a month. These involuntary incorrect overpayments have been used to reduce my overall loan amount. However, can I ask for these overpayments to be refunded to me?
They haven't apologised for their mistake or asked for my permission to reduce the overall loan amount. But I feel that they have taken these overpayments in error and I should have the choice of reducing my loan amount or receive a cheque from them. Any advices? Thank You

You can certainly ask for the overpayments back.
Given that it was NRAM's error, I'd expect it to agree (unless you were in arrears / there's some other very good reason for it to hang on to them).0
