Well, we were promised two free games a month if we Live Gold, Fable, Halo, Assassins Creed franchises all mentioned, so here it is, the furst of 2 for July...
Defense Grid: The Awakening,
Ta Da...yep, and ageing Xbox arcade game.....It might be Ok, and hey, it's free, but not what they seemed to be promising. If this is what they came up with to stop people moving over the the PS4 then I might just have to buy some Sony shares.

Doesn't quite compare to what you get with PS Plus in June:
PS3
Uncharted 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Catherine, The Cave, Demon's Souls, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD, Kingdom's of Amalur: Reckoning and LittleBigPlanet Karting.
Vita
Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Rayman Origins and Sine Mora.
Then of course the new games for July are:
PS3
Battlefield 3, Payday: The Heist and Saints Row the Third
Vita
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus and Unit 130 -
I got fable 3 in June, thats an amazing game and worth £11 on amazon (or about £5 on ebay).
At some point is going to be Halo and AC2. but even the arcade game you mention is worth about £5 or £6.
So far with the two games have been worth about £10 at lowest prices, so if it is like that every month well worth the gold subs.0 -
Lol. Poor old xbox gold holders. Microsoft so desperate to get more gold subscriptions they knick Sony's PS+ idea. And fail miserably at it too. Make online free (and IE, youtube and everything else even the Wii allows for free) and gold cheaper and actually worth it, then I may consider it.0

As for online gaming becoming free on the XBox, that's highly unlikely, especially as Sony are requiring PS Plus for online gaming on the PS4 (though online gaming will remain free on the PS3). It'll be interesting to see how PS Plus and Gold measure up against each other on the next gen consoles.0 -
They both nick each others' ideas. Sony did the same with Trophies - they didn't have these when the PS3 was released but when they saw the success of the XBox Achievements, Trophies were created.

I gathered that, but trophies/achievements have no value in terms of money (unless GAME do what they claimed they would do), games do.
I also know it's unlikely, doesn't stop me talking about it though. Microsoft are ridiculous when it comes to scraping the barrel for every last penny.
And I know about PS4 too. Just as ridiculous. Charging to play online with friends is just taking the P.0 -

PS3 has suffered from not having in-game comms being provided by separate servers like they have on XBox Gold. Trying to play in some games with the peer-to-peer service has been shocking - comms have been awful, breaking up and difficult to make out what the other players are saying (and as I'm part of a community that plays and chats together online, it's essential to have good, working comms). Then of course there's the lack of cross-game chat on the PS3 that XBox Gold users take for granted.
This will all change on the PS4. Cross game chat is coming. Sharing videos/screenshots etc is all built in and I'm sure Sony will be looking to at least match if not beat what is offered on the XBox. All for the price of one game a year (£40). As it is, you won't just give over that money and see nothing else for it, you'll continue to get 'free' games on the PS3, Vita and PS4 as part of this PS Plus subscription.0 -

They're a business, and it takes money to run the service. Unless they could make a profit from it in some other way, why would they stop charging?I have no signature.0 -
I dont have a problem with Microsoft charging for the service. The last 12 month I got in March was 26.99, not even the price of a full price game. Yes I would love it to be free of course, but would want the same level of service, apps, videos etc.
I don't think they would do that if you didn't pay for it and in all the years I have been paying a subscription it really hasn't gone up in price and I cant say the same for other things in life.0 -

Because their competitors are able to provide online gaming with chat in game for free. If even the Wii can do that at no extra charge, you'd think microsoft would learn something, but no, they gotta charge you for all your worth (and in doing so, deny you access to something you've already paid for - Netflix/Lovefilm etc - which again, even the Wii provide for free). Plus they are a multi billion dollar company, hardly going to dent their pockets to provide free online play. Not if they improve the online service.

It may have cross game chat, but as it is, I'm not bothered about that. The problems PS3 servers had were due to the games maker, not Sony. And of course, someone's awful internet connection didn't help. But for the most part, when it worked fine, it worked superb and my friends and I have had great fun on multiplayer online games.
The service Sony have now, to me is fine. You play online for free but if you want added perks like free games and discounts you pay the yearly fee and get more than your money's worth. At first, plus was not like this, so I didn't bother for a while, but it got better over time, so I bought a years worth, and haven't looked back since as it's improved dramatically in time and gives far more value for money than live gold does. I see nothing wrong with it. The only thing Sony fails at (and SCEE in particular) is listening to it's customers (SCEA gave optional removal of singstar app when thousands complained - europe still hasn't done it) and providing stable firmware updates.0 -

It doesn't matter what their competitors are doing, as long as they are still making money from the service they provide. If there was a way to provide the service for free, while making the same revenue, I'm sure that M$ would do it to attract more consumers. As it stands, M$ provide a service that people are willing to pay for. Those that don't want to pay look elsewhere.I have no signature.0
