can someone tell me if the 6 years a default that stays on you credit file, is from the date of the default or the date the default is settled.

I think it will be from date of default.
If you have settled (in full) then it should show as settled on your file.0 -

6 years from the last activity on the account.
so if you settle the defaulted account some time after the default is first registered, it is 6 years from the date of settlement.

Sorry but that's incorrect. It's 6 years from the default date, regardless of subsequent satisfaction.
