do you have a Slaters near you? http://www.slaters.co.uk/suits they cater for all shapes & sizes. Suit 'deals' start at £75, by the look of it.

Have no idea of the quality though.

What about Burtons where you can buy seperate sized jacket/trousers.
If you aren't too proud why not check out charity shops.

Cheap suits cost about £500. A standard fitted suit costs 7 or £800. You may occasionally find a fitter offering a sale price of 4 or £500.

Spending £50 (or, more realistically, 79 or £99) on a suit is a false economy.
Crikey! What's the weather like on your planet?!?

The average person in regular business will be wearing a suit costing around £79 to £199 - I'd say 80% of suits sold in the UK are probably in this price range. Only about 5 to 10% of suits will be sold at the high prices you're stating, to those who can afford it.

In 15 years of business I've bought about 7 suits never more than £100 per suit (multi purchases) and my latest from Marks and Spencer is going strong after about 5 years (I'm only an occasional suit wearer 5% of workdays, mostly just shirt and tie required).

If the OP is considering the real bargains, you'd be best looking in the clearance racks of the regular department stores during sales, as you can pick up a £99 suit for anything down to about £39 (I found a reasonable suit from BHS which should've been £79 and I got it for £29 a while back to use as a spare).

Personally I think anyone spending £200+ on a suit falls into three categories:
    1. You need to dress to impress in your line of work (in which case you wouldn't be on a bargain / money saving forum anyway, as you'll be earning nice money)
    2. You require a specialist fitting due to your more unique sizing - specialist tailors are not necessarily needed, Debenhams has a tailor service and while back had a BOGOF on their £399 tailored suits.
    3. You are treating yourself to a perceived treat or you've got more money than sense

  • I heard that M&S do suits for £50 during the Christmas period and Boxing day? Is that true??
