Using brand coupons as money off?

Hi,
I am so sorry if this has been discussed before, I have tried a few searchers and looked through threads, there is so much information I feel overwhelmed.
A few years a go when I worked for Tesco, I was on a till shift and I lady obviously purchased her shopping, however before making the purchase I scanned through loads of money off coupons. Money off coupons for say 5p off a Mars Bar or 10p off a 6 pack of Coke.
However, the lady had not purchased these items and the money was knocked off anyway, all fine and above board apparently, at least as far as my supervisor was concerned. So recently I have been watching this extreme couponers program on a free view channel, I think and it reminded me of this and how I had seen Martin on the TV years back talking about it.
Can this still be done? Or was it a small loop hole that soon got flattened.
I move into my own home soon and to pass the time while I wait for solicitors etc etc blah blah blah, I am looking into as many ways to save money as I possible can, but hopefully still have a reasonable standard of living.
Thanks.

extreme couponing on tlc. have to admit i dont think i could do that to that level, watched one this afternoon and they were at the till for over an hour!

unfortunately the day of using coupons without buying product ended along time ago.
you now need to purchase the item the coupons for.0 -
Yeah that is it, TLC.
They get vast amounts of one item. Of course it would be best to go after items that have a very long shelf life that you would buy every other week and make the bulk supply last a year or something stupid. Toilet rolls, tins of soup etc.
Take a look at this

Reading on other forums there is still a sense of "stigma" around the use of coupons and vouchers which ever term you prefer. I personally don't care, if I can save my self lots of cash. I just need to find a a good place to get a steady stream of coupons now and try it on a small scale.
In one of those blogs, the thing I was talking about is mentioned and by the sounds of it cannot be done anymore.0 -
You can get the Tesco mag online in PDF format so you can print vouchers

Looks like most of the ones in there are out dated now, ill be looking for the next issue and see if I can do something on a small scale.0 -
