i remember making some sort of tray bake thing as a small child. it was easy to make but i cannot remember the ingredients apart from it was pink coconut (presumably coloured with red food colouring?) and we melted chocolate to go on top.
someone wise please tell me what it is called so i can find a recipie/instructions or tell em how to make it? was it only coconut and red food dye under the chocolate?

900 g granulated sugar
i/2 pint milk
220g medium cut desiccated coconut
10 drops red food colouring
Makes 14 large bars. Butter a baking tin. Place sugar in pan add milk and stir till sugar is dissolved. Bring to boil and boil to 240F. Turn off heat. Remove pan and stir in coconut. Pour half the mix into the pan, then add red food colouring, place back on warm ring and stir for 2 mins. By this time the white half should have set slightly. Add pink mixture and smooth over. After 5 mins mark into bars (or add melted choc if required about an hour later then mark)0 -

I tried the above recipe yesterday and it still hasn't set properly... eek! The top has set, but it's not the stiff consistency that shop-bought/Nan made bars are... I'll give it til this evening and let you know how it goes.
