I looked further into my Experian file for answers about why I am being turned down. I have queried about three things. Apart from names being spelt wrong and mother's maiden names being used instead of my name, there are two loans both of which I paid off months ago which are not yet showing as settled. No wonder they think I cannot afford more!

The only thing I cannot change I don't think is Nationwide. I have moved my overdraft up and down throughout the year (not even really using most of it) and each time they have recorded a search! Anyone know if I can remove some of these?

You cant - if you request more overdraft than Nationwide is prepared to give you based on the information they hold on you internally and how you have maintained your account (over a reasonably small time scale in my experience) they will credit check you again to see if with more information you should be eligible for the full amount or not.

Therefore the search is as valid as if you were getting an entirely new card.

    hello
i have similar prob with experian, i dont take any notice of callcredit really but as you say , experian seemto be the big boys in credit searches, i have a fair rating with them and a good one with equifax but have been declined for 2 applications for unsecured consolidation loans, i have no adverse credit history either
