Don't know if anyone is interested, but been into Lidl this morning, and their tins of chopped tomatoes have come down from 21p to 15p.

Excellent! Was planning on doing a giant batch of a tomato base sauce next week - that'll make it even more cost effective. The Lidl ones are really good quality too!Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

it was only about 6-7 months ago that lidl and tesco value chopped toms were permanently priced at 15p :mad:0

My daughter informed me yesterday that we only have 1 tin left, so will get some later.0

They also have a very good deal on Prosecco £2.37 per bottle a lovely summer drink and about 1/3 off the usual price. :beer:0

These budget brand tinned tomatoes can contain a lot of water. However, for some recipes, that can be less of a problem than for others. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

I agree. I use Cirio for plain tomato sauce and saturday morning brekkie with scrambled egg and toast, and Lidl's toms cant compete. Might be ok for stews and stuff though.
I'm still waiting for Morrisons 2 for 1 on Cirio tinned toms. When they do I'm going in for a 150 or so tins! Bought about 80 tins last year but ran out months ago.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" I know some cheap brands contain a lot of water, but have been surprised by the Lidl ones, they are really thick and chunky. If you haven't tried them, give them a goYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
If anyone is interested, Morrisons has started its Cirio chopped tomatos BOGOF offer which runs until 8th July. That brings them down to 24.5p per tin. Thats still 9.5p more than Lidl, but Cirio tomatos are well worth it!
I popped down to my local Morrisons at lunch and picked up a few tins for myself. Might pop back and get some more on Friday though as they've got to last me until their next offer, next year:SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair.
