Best Time To Visit a Bank ??

Hi Folks.

I have to go to my Lloyds to withdraw cash from the counter which can take up to half hour ... I then need to go to Nationwide which invariably means queuing out the door ... This whole process can take over an hour to complete.

Is there such thing as a generally quieter day or time of day for banks that will reduce this waiting time as its driving mad

  • There are peaks and troughs in customer demand, but in many cases the troughs occur at the same time week in, week out. The financial institution will be aware of this fact and will change its working practises to maximise the staff efficiency during the troughs - so you, the customer, just see continual queues.

My suggestion is look for alternatives. I only go to my Bank to pay cheques in from my clients. I use a local sub-branch of my main bank, with easy adjacent car-parking. All other transactions - cash withdrawal, balance checking, standing order amendment, bill payment, fund transfer - I use the online banking system or cash machine.

You might need to set up an alternative bank account initially to provide these features but once set up the time savings should repay themselves fairly quickly - you are wasting 50 hours a year just queuing.

How much are you wanting to withdraw?

I also would suggest Internet banking. Set up your Nationwide account as a bill payment with LTSB Internet banking.

Why not ask the bank you visit when are their quite times, each branch is likely to be different.

I presume that the amount that you wish to withdraw from LTSB is in excess of the amount which is permissable from a hole in the wall and/or you are not happy with the personnal security aspect ?
I have found that it can be considerably quicker when withdrawing from LTSB to use the Post Office. Quite a few local Post Offices local to me are not as busy as the banks most of the time. Obviously there are times to avoid, the first couple of hours on a morning when senior citizens have been waiting for the doors to open since 8:30. I don't know if there's a cash limit that you are allowed to withdraw however. I am assuming of course that you have the appropriate debit card.

dont know about the best times as it will vary from branch to branch.

However i would certainly avoid the day before / after a bank holiday as in my experience they are queued out the door for most of the day.

I would think that if you got to the bank before opening time (say 10 mins) and waited then you would be near enough the front of the line.
