I managed 3 minutes last night...I could not have done 3 minutes and 1 second.

Yep, that's pretty good!
Try mixing it up with high and low plank for maximum benefit

Also raise each leg in turn, helps strengthen core. And don't forget side planks (strengthens obliques) progressing to raised arm and leg then rotating body to scoop arm under body but not actually touching the ground, if that makes sense.

I find planking very easy compared with press ups. Would I be better off just doing press ups? I find it does all the core work that you get from planking but adds arms, chest and shoulder workout too.0
