Will my poor credit history stop my husband getting a mortgage?

I have some old defaults (now settled) on my account from 2008 my husband doesn't have any. We want to buy our home through right to acquire however I know my chances of getting a mortgage would be slim so he was going to get a mortgage on his name only but would my defaults stop him getting on? Looking at a 50k mortgage.

Depends on the lender.
Given the age of your defaults, I would suggest getting your Experian, Equifax and Call Credit reports as you may find a joint mortgage achievable which would be a better solution.I am a Mortgage Broker

He would need to purchase the property and have the mortgage in his sole name.
Do you have any joint financial connections, such as a current account or any joint credit?
If so, a link may connect your credit histories.
In these circumstances, you need to get hold of all three of your statutory credit files;-
Equifax

Which you should take along to a meeting with a good independent or whole market mortgage broker. Ask friends and relatives for a recommendation. Failing that, use https://www.unbiased.co.uk remembering to switch off "sponsored ads only" option so you get a full list, not just the paid-for adverts.
The £2 statutory paper files will be fine. Avoid online schemes you have to pay for which give you a "credit score" as these will not help you.I am a mortgage broker.
