seabright oddly enough my last wm engineer (who had to condemn my 12 y/o machine, I've had its replacement for 6 years so far) said the opposite, that the soda crystals together with washing powder is the best thing to use. Maybe they all go on whatever their wives or mothers do!
I use a 40c short wash for my towels and bedding as they don't really get dirty and a 30c regular wash for everything else. I couldn't afford to use any more electricity or expensive washing liquids, I'm happy that what I do works for me.0
