    The one I know is...

Beat an egg... bit of salt and pepper... pour onto a large plate. Dip the bread both sides completely in the egg.

Stick in a very lightly oiled frying pan and brown both sides.

No doubt Queenie's will be different :)

The only difference to what I would do for french toast is add a bit of milk to the beaten egg.

Yeah, my mum used to do that. But I think it was more to do with making eggs stretch further for five hungry kids :)

I prefer mine more "eggy" :)

Ah, well I prefer mine less 'eggy' - nothing to do with stretching it further!

Tea tonight - Fish n Chips from the chippy :D

Gawd, can't remember last time we had a takeaway - must be months. However, feel very very full, so may have to have an evening constitutional after kids have gone to bed.

I was lucky enough to stay at a lovely country house hotel last weekend (competition win). They made the french toast with brioche and it was delicious. It would work out more expensive than ususal french toast, but good for when having visitors to stay etc. It is my daughter's birthday on Friday, so I am going to give this as her breakfast in bed. The hotel served it with bacon and you could add maple syrup if you wished.

.... Queenie-How do you make the french toast please??? Always fancied it but never got round to doing it.

In cup put an egg and a little milk, use a fork to mix them together. (I do not add any seasoning before/during cooking, we're reducing our salt intake ;) )
Pour that into a shallow dish and dip in pieces of bread so that the bread is "coated" on both sides.
Now put the bread into a pre-heated, lightly oiled, frying pan and cook until golden brown on both sides.

    Tips:

    * don't waste any of the eggy mix, pour that into your fry pan with the final slice of bread so there is no waste.

    * any bread, type of bread, can be used, but drier bread rather than fresh is better because it will absorb the egg mix better.

*French toast can be sweet or savoury - lemon juice with a sprinkle of sugar makes the toast taste like pancakes. Experiment and enjoy!! :D
