HM Burger Buns

Options
Morning All

I was wondering if I could get some help :) I made some burgers last night to have for our dinner tonight, and I would quite like to make some buns to go with them. I've got a Morphy Richards FastBake, and have made rolls before, but they always come out quite crusty. Does anyone know any way of making rolls so they're a fairly soft crust? Do I just need to bake them at a lower temperature for longer?

Any advise / ideas / recipes gratefully received :)

    Morning Daysie,

As soon as they come out of the oven put them on a wire rack AND wrap them in a clean tea towel. As they cool the trapped steam softens the crusts.

Now my problem is I can't make crusty rolls .........the crusts are too hard!!!

Somewhere on the site is a recipe for refrigerator potato bread dough - I think Holsale provided it. It makes lovely soft rolls. Otherwise if you brush the crust with margarine whilst hot, it can soften the crust.

    Hi daysieblue,

This older thread should help: Bread making, soft rolls

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the suggestions together.

Personally I think rolls are best made in the oven and if you make sure you work the dough well and leave it to rise for a good good while then that should make soft rolls.

    Hi Phil,

Would you mind posting your recipe for rolls please? I've never done them by hand only in the breadmaker.

If you have the morphy richards BM use oil instead of butter that makes them softer. I also put the dough in for longer, adn on a lower heat and let them risde for 2x the amount you are meant to =. not perfect, but better, Id be intereted to read the other link

Just to report back, I used this recipe for my burger buns tonight, and they turned out really well, bit of a succesful meal all round, HM burgers, HM rolls and chips made from new potatos (well sauted really, but still nice!)

thanks for all your tips and advice, will store them up and maybe try something different next time :)
