John Lewis Gift list Problem June 2013

WARNING
If you have a wedding gift list set up with John Lewis they are having major issues with their website which, despite knowing of weeks ago, they failed to tell us until after our wedding. Some transactions are not processing at all whilst others are processing but the items are not being added to your list.
They are trying to play it down massively but my mother made three separate attempts to buy us a gift and none of the transactions processed and the ONLY way she found this out was because she checked her credit card statement.
We were married a month ago but have no wedding gifts, and we can't even thank the ones who believe they bought us a gift or those who have tried to buy us a gift. John Lewis have suggested that we call each and every guest to ask if they have bought us a gift????!!!!
Be warned!! The service your expect to get from John Lewis, isn't the service you will receive, at least not until their website is fixed!

Thankyou for the warning. I bought something as a guest from a gift list yesterday - do you know if they are still having problems? Sorry to hear that you didn't receive your gifts xGC2012: Nov £130.52/£125

We have a gift list with John Lewis and it seems to be working fine... It went live when they said it would (8th June), and people have been buying gifts (we can see the items have been removed from the list, and when we log in we can see who has purchased what and when).
Compbunny, have you looked back at the gift list you have purchased from to see if the item you have purchased has been removed?MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -

Thank you Steph, I will definitely be getting in touch with him.
There is still a problem, and from what I can work out from other forums, it's been a problem for quite awhile. They refuse to give us any additional information, ie the EXACT problem with the site, or even when the issues began. I think this is because they know we are liaising with Watchdog from the BBC who are of course very interested in the story.
My mother tried on three occasions to buy us a gift, on each occasion it was removed from the gift list, however, my mother checked her bank statement (as she always does) and it didn't appear. When she then called to question, she eventually purchased the item over the telephone, but it had gone up in price by 30%!!!!!
I am aware that on other some times the transaction it may just fails, and the person will realise that as the screen will freeze, but, and this was told to me by John Lewis themselves (!) the transaction will process, the person will be charged but it will never be added to your list! I asked if they had any way of telling who/how many people had this problem with our list, and they said no, no way at all!!! They want us to call all of our guests and ask if they bought us something, if they checked their statement or if they had an error message.
I think the most upsetting part is they don't actually care about the distress this is causing us. I don't want to call our guests and ask if they bought us a gift, it's so rude!! And I worry some people will think we are just reminding them to buy us something!!!!!
Happy wedding planning ladies!!!!! I hope the sun shines on your big day!!!0 -
At any point did you look at your list to see what had gone, and look at who had purchased what?
I've been keeping an eye on ours as it has been helping to start the thank you list. I've just had a look against our original print out, and the items which have gone from there are the ones which I can see in the 'gift purchased' section of our site, which has a name and message from the person purchasing it.
I'll make sure I make a copy of this I guess, just in case anything happens, but it looks fine to me.MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -

Gosh Lisa, what an awful situation to be in; isn't having a gift list supposed to take all the awkwardness out of gift requesting/buying & giving? It sounds like JL have made created a complete nightmare for you and your new hubby.
Surely they must have some sort of digital record of which guests visited/purchased from your list - if they've managed to take money, they will at least have credit card name details. It sounds like someone at JL doesn't want to do the work of sorting out the mess they created.
Many thanks for posting your experiences here; we're still up in the air on how we are going to register for gifts but JL has just been taken off the list of 'maybes'.
I hope everything gets sorted out for you in the end.0 -
Our list is open at the moment. Does anyone know if this problem has now been resolved?Mother, wife, scientist, analyst.

We had our stuff delivered on Saturday, and were kept updated all through and had several letters posted to us. We could log into our account at any time and see what had been purchased and who by, and the status of the item (purchased, on order, issued).
We were very happy with the service; the only thing we were annoyed about is that although we made our list in May, quite a few of our items went into the summer sale. They were out of stock, but still allowed guests to buy them. Not a huge problem, as they converted the amount into vouchers. I have since managed to buy a couple of things with vouchers we were given as they still had them in my local shop.MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0
