My tax this week seems off

in Cutting tax
Hi guys
So last week my wage (37.5 hours) before tax was £233.63
I paid £11.80 in tax and £10.15 in National insurance
and received £211.68 which is normal for a full week
I just got my pay slip today and it seems all kinds of wrong to me
my wage (14.5 hours) before tax is £90.34
I paid £18.20 in tax and £10.85 in National insurance
and receive £61.29
now I could be wrong but shouldn't it be less than the week before?

you are not wrong, but only your employer can explain what they have done wrong so go ask them. On 90.34 gross per week you should not have paid any tax or NI at all
That what I thought should of happened I'll give them a ring. Thanks for post :beer:2012

PS as you now earn less than £109 per week are you aware that you are now NOT getting a credit towards your state pension and other NI related benefit entitlements because you are earning less that what is called the "lower earnings limit"?
I hope this cut in hours/pay is temporary otherwise you need to review your situation for the long term0 -
Is it possible that you have received two 'pays' in one week. When looking at those figures I note that the tax is at 20% exactly and the NIC at 12% exactly which are the correct rates after the tax/NIC free weekly limits. Could you perhaps check the week number applied to each payslip and let us know?0

And what are they? Are you sure also that it does not state 'period no xx' or something similar?
While an employer may have reason to deduct tax at 20% on the whole amount, the only circumstance known to me where NIC can be charged at a flat 12% is with linked employments - not appropriate to you I suspect.0 -
I wonder if your employer missed out a week 53 and have just noticed that they are out of line with the tax weeks and have done this to try and correct.0

That was my reasoning, hence the specific queries. In addition, I have come across some employers who pay weekly and have been 'caught' by the new RTI legislation. For example, some were paying on a Friday, using a processing date of the Saturday. Now the processing date for the final payment submission has to be on or before the payment date. This year Saturday 13th April was in week 2 but, because the payment date was Friday 12th (week 1) adjustments had to be made and Saturday 6th and Friday 12th became two payments in week 1. (I hope that I have explained that reasonably).0 -

It says the proper weeks week ending 16th & 23rd. They'll still not replied to my email yet but hopefully they'll get back to soon. I forgot as well I'm repaying underpaid tax as well, so it could be that.2012
