MBNA Balance Transfers...watch out!

A pal applied for an MBNA credit card on-line and transferred a balance across. There was no part of the application that took direct debit details and there were no follow up calls asking him to do this...the application was approved and the balance transferred.

He forgot to make the initial payment, the 0% offer has been withdrawn and hes clocking up the interest.

Admits it's his fault, but is so used to DD thing being part of a card application that I guess he just assumed it was in place.

Cycnical part of me thinks it's an MBNA ploy...when he called to state his case they apologised and cancelled the interest and penalty straightaway. It's as if they're thinking "screw as many people as possible, but if someone complains then just wipe it in case we get bad publicity"

Thought I'd share.

The first payment with MBNA quite often goes like that, either its forgotten, or the DD doesnt get set up in time - which is quite often the case - nothing to do with MBNA mind banks can be slow to set them up.

However, if you phone them up they will ALWAYS reinstate the promo, refund the fee and interest (if its a new card)
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
