That does sound like a good solution.

Bless DH - he said 'I'd quite like to treat myself to <insert some male geeky computer related thing in here!!!> when I get the money' and I asked him how much it cost and he said £15!! - he is a sweetie, I think I'll allow him a £15 treat! haha

So maybe we'll put £200 on Lewis Group, £50 on treats for us and £250 towards the holiday (that would cover the flights and car hire - just got gite hire (£200 approx) to pay for then)

That sounds like a really sensible plan hun. My OH got an extra bit of cash a while ago, but because we were trying to get the last chunk paid off the big debt at the time it all went on getting rid of that. It was a bit disheartening for him, so I definately recommend splitting the money as you have mentioned.

You sound like you are tackling this all really sensibly, well done hun. Do you have a goal for when you want Lewis Group gone for good? Just off to take a peek at your SOA now... x

  • Great diary. We are hoping to emigrate to New Zealand in 2011 so it is good to see someone working towards the same goal as us. We have £7000 left in debt from a total of £24000 3 years ago, so we are getting there slowly. Good luck and I will be keeping up with your progress to spur me on.

    Re: The Lewis Group debt...

I'm not sure really - sometimes I think it's only a small debt, we should be able to clear it in no time but other times, it feels like it's impossible to make any overpayments out of our monthly money without really going short, if that makes sense? I'm sure these are thoughts that everyone goes through when they are paying off debts though and I'm sure it will get easier as time goes on and we get better at budgeting!

I'd like to see that debt cleared by the end of the year, if possible - would just be so nice to see it gone! I see people on here clearing huge debts in less time than that so I'm sure it must be possible!

Thanks for all your support :D

It certainly will get better. Instead of a long term goal, how about setting yourself monthly ones, e.g. this month we will pay £x off Lewis Group, then next month £y off it (increasing slightly each month)

Thats a method I have found helps x

I do the monthly goal thing as well. It works really well and keeps you focussed. My goals have tended to involve nice round figures e.g. Get credit card below £2500 etc.

Once I know I have achieved the goal for the month, I carry on to see how much I can beat it by :) I'm always in competition with myself! LOL. But it seems to work for me.

Just popped in to say good luck with your quest AND that the reason OH's dont praise us on the cooking/cleaning front is because usually they are under the assumption that THE FAIRIES DO IT
