Should there be fewer gas and electricity deals?

Would it be best that the regulator specifies a range of tariffs - maybe as many as 10, and each company sets prices for whichever tariffs it wants to offer this way you can compare like for like between the companies, but also allow flexibility in keeping economy7 type tariffs, having fixed tariff however much energy you use, have a service charge tariff with a daily payment and a lower per unit price etc. Each company could choose whether or not they offer each tariff.
I certainly wouldn't want to go back to nationalised companies. I buy my Elec and Gas from Ecotricity because I know they invest more money in developing renewables. I certainly wouldn't want to be tied to a supplier that doesn't invest in renewables, or is pro-nuclear!0 -
By jove, people voting in droves for prices set by a regulator. Can't you see what this would mean in the medium or long term? No competition, no option to compare anything, prices will go up willy-nilly and get sky high before we know it.
How old are you innovate? Old enough to remember electricity & gas boards? I didn't have any issue with their pricing structures. Everything seemd fine without any competition.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0
