Orlistat

Options
I went to the doctors on wednesday and asked for some medical help to loose weight.

I have an under active thyroid and polysystic ovary syndrome; both of these are known to have added weight issues.

The doctor agreed for me to try orlistat.

I am slightly worried by what it says in the leaflet; that it might affect my thyroxine tablets.

I have not noticed any side affects so far.

Also, how long is it when will I notice loss?

Although its been 2 days, I've so far lost 2lbs.

I'm eating low fat as possible, and have stopped eating "crap".

Does anyone know how long before I notice any real weight loss??

Thanks!!

Orlistat is not a magic bean - I took a course of it and didn't lose a drastic amount of weight.

I also take levothyroxine and didn't have any effects - but speak to your doctor if you're worried about that, mine set my mind at ease :)

Do you exercise? What kind of diet are you following? Cutting processed carbs might help.

    Good luck!

    Thanks!!

I am getting a treadmill this week so I can use it for excercise.

I am eating a lot less, and I try to eat low fat as possible.

I dont know how much weight you are expected too loose but its only been 4 days so far.

Hopefully getting the treadmill will help xx

Okay. Have a look at MyFitnessPal or Myplate on Livestrong - if you eat too little you won't lose weight. Both sites help calculate optimum food.

Also actually look at what you eat - in particular low-fat stuff tends to be jam-packed with sugar. I found eating more protein and good fat and reducing white carbs (no bread or pasta at all) helped more than eating low-fat, as fat keeps you sated for longer. Don't combine high-fat and Orlistat though!

Cooking from scratch helped me too as it means I'm not getting all the unwanted extras from shop-bought sauces and the like.

Along with using the treadmill, get out and walk where you'd normally drive and make sure you do resistance work as well. Free weights, push-ups, pull-ups, squats, and lunges are good here.

    Thanks for the advice.

I've also got a pilates machine which I use to help stretch muscles etc for exercise also.

I will have a look at the dietry side of things; maybe its because I dont eat enough that I cant loose weight!!

    Will give it a go!!

I really wish you the best - for me I had a bit of a breakthrough when I realised the numbers on the scales hadn't changed much...but I was fitter, stronger and healthier than I'd ever been :)

    Keep us posted! :D

I just bought a bargain on Argos.

A Roger Black treadmill was £699 reduced to £299!!

I made sure I bought warranty for 3 years to cover worth £57 ontop.

    Happy Days!!
