It seems odd to me that she is still even being offered this, as it seems outdated for what they offer now and complicates things! Is anyone else still on it? Or been offered it recently? :)

Had the very same letter last week.
My 12 months was up in June, got the letter in September, can leave with no penalty until November.
I'm thinking of leaving, but still want "caller display" to weed out nuisance calls, so need to find out if that's only available with BT, or if other suppliers offer it.

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?
  • I have also had the same letter yesterday with the option of continuing with the free evenings and weekends at no extra cost but with a new 12 month contract starting 1st November.
Alternatively I can pay £3.50 a month with no new contract.
I also pay my line rental upfront in August so basically I have two overlapping contracts which I am happy to continue with as I have no immediate plans to leave BT.

Mum's decided to go ahead with renewing - interestingly her confirmation email says her new 12 month contract will start from 27th September and not 1st November, so that's reduced the overlap for her, maybe it can for you :)

Also, the email says she'll get free 0870 and 0845 calls as well - something the letter didn't mention and she doesn't think she had before. The letter did say "Get our new unlimited evening and weekend calls package for free...." with the word "new" in bold, so I guess that was their way of indicating it would be slightly different to the old "unlimited evening and weekend calls at no extra cost". Anyway, it's a bonus she wasn't expecting :D

I've had a letter today, saying that to continue my free weekend and evening calls, I need to renew my line rental contract by November 1st.

As I had paid my line rental in advance, I just rang to ask when my present payment expires and was surprised to hear that it was 27th October. I then asked how much notice to leave I had to give and was told 30 days.

On commenting that this gave me little time to act, the call centre person agreed and then said that the free weekend part no longer exists and so I can't have it. I argued that this is incorrect as I have called because I had a letter about renewing it.

He then asked if I was cancelling and I said I was considering, but please not to cancel for me.

I asked if, should my notice now have to run over the deadline to which I've paid ie October 27th, whether I would be charged a whole month's rental or just for the odd days. The (non) reply was to ask if I was cancelling, so I told him not to bother and That I'd ask online, so I'm going to pm the BT rep.

We've been with BT for over 30 years but it's come to a parting of the ways.. and mainly because of foreign call centres.
