I'm having all sorts of early 70's flash backs relating to Brentford Nylons!

I didn't just have have nylon nighties, I had nylon all in one pyjamas, rather like today's onesies, but in lurid nylon with various ruffles for decoration. Hideous! But at the time I thought they were great!

Emm, yes, I remember fibre glass curtains, I think they were supposed to keep the heat in or something. I don't think my mum ever tried to alter them, which was just as well, but I seem to remember that they were horrible to touch!

Who else remember Jamboree bags of sweets?........

I know that will jog some ones memory.......

Quite nice here today , bit sun and cloud, ive cut the grass this morning, and cleaned a water feature out and pump, dirty job but had to be done ........Its now running super........

thanks fuddle for the lovely new thread :)

welcome to posters new and old!!!:D

Have to admit i'm enjoying the memories, especially the dolly and the twin tub. That was my job helping mum with the dolly when we ran out of leccy. I hated it, but then i hate cleaning! :o

My mum wouldn't have a front loader either till about 1999 when the twin tub broke. Every time she used it we used to have have to tip and carry it in the wash house.

Yep i remember the provi lady, they still exist here in m'boro, along with shopacheck, the pool man, the meter man and the fruit and veg guy. Sometimes they they still come round. Now we just have "the van" who sells all sorts.
We never had a phone till about 1994, couldn't afford one. My mum used to clean the step to, when we moved the garden was always swept and cleaned to perfection.

When we moved house back in 1990/1991, most of our stuff was moved in a horse and cart. Or carried between us or in wheel barrows. This used to be a normal occurrence until and weirdly its starting to happen here again

I remember the lemonade bottle in the 80's we used to go round and collect them and thought it was great when the got the money back.

We went out yesterday to a comic event in town, it was great all free events and the lads loved it. Then naughtily went to the tea shop, the lads liked it and even OH! He said i now why you come here its so peaceful, now if only it did meals it would be perfect.
He's not a big drink tea drinker, but said he will try some next time.
Myself and ds1 had teddy bear picnic a really nice fruit tea, ds2 had a strawberry milkshake served with fresh strawberries, whipped cream in a jar. OH had a deluxe hot chocolate, the lads had sandwiches, bagels, us adults shared a danish.

When we first walked though the door, these three italian women glared at us because we sat at a four seater table. OH was on the loo so didn't see any of it happen. They tried to moved us to another table and went to pick ds2 up off the chair. I was fuming, the ladies in the tea shop saw it happened and politely said to them, we don't behave in this manner, and said apologies or leave.
don't think these women were used to being spoken to like that and apologised and moved away. Cheeky mares, luckily it didn't spoil our time there and the lads didn't want to leave. Instead we sat for over an sipping our drinks and enjoying the music. DS2 said loved listening to vera lynn, and ds1 called me a dinosaur when i told him about the record player. So funny watching the little nice in his seat. The ladies were lovely though and told ds2 all about the pictures on the china cups.

Not sure what were doing today as it just raining on and off, really need to smash the mud up and put the grass seed down.
Haven't been well past few days with my joints and all my legs muscles are tight.
OH was in stitches when i told him about the rhuemotolgists, they had me doing crabs and all sorts. Didn't help that the doc asked me to strip off to my underwear  Two things went through my head 1) glad i shaved and 2) oh b$gger i haven't got matching underwear on :o

Apparently the reason my legs are playing up is because i have severe hypermobility and have never been diagnosed till now. She twisted my neck and said i was like something from the exorcist. Oh she thought it was great me twisting in different shapes and forms even the second consultant was impressed. So i feel better knowing that its not all in my head and that the pain, cracking it real. Oh just remembered i have to go for an mri today at the hospital at 3pm.

Better get sorted, have a good day all. x

We walked a mile to school and back every day - I started school at 4 and after day one I walked by myself (at my own insistence) or with the girl over the road. Who was 6! I was allowed a comic a week - mine was "Twinkle" - anyone remember Nurse Nancy and the Dolls Hospital? My favourite TV programme was "The Double Deckers"

The Double Deckers was one of my favourites too. I had a crush on 'Scooper', played by Peter Firth, who went on to play Harry in Spooks

I think I got the first ever 'Twinkle', but as I'm a couple of years older than you, I must have felt I'd needed something slightly more grown up and went on to Mandy and Bunty. I used to love the cut out dolls and clothes on the back pages of Bunty. I used to keep all the clothes, in the hope that I could make new combinations of outfits, if the dolls arms were in the right place!

Shegar I remember Jamborees, but my favourite was the candy sticks that looked like cigarettes. You had to lick the ends to 'light' them, and then pretend to smoke them. It clearly didn't do me any harm, as I tried a real cirgarette when I was 13, hated it, and haven't touched another real cigarette since!

    Afternoon all,

    So enjoying reading everyone's memories.

I used to read Twinkle, and then this was followed by Jinty and then Jackie. My mum used to read the Jackie problem page first to make sure it was suitable. Such innocent days!

Can anyone remember Bizzy Lizzy, the childrens programme where Lizzy wore a pink and white checked dress with the magic daisy on the pocket? I used to love this show and my mum made me a 'bizzy lizzy' dress.

I did have one nylon nightdress but my long hair used to get so static and cling to it that Mum stopped buying nylon items. I do remember that every christmas eve I would have a new homemade fleece fabric dressing gown. How I used to love going to the fabric shop and choosing the new fabric and patch motif that I wanted put on the front of the gown.

I am trying to remember those things from my childhood that I really loved, such as making gifts using patchwork, embroidery etc. Also, having routines by getting up early to do the everyday household jobs and then in the afternoon Mum would sit down and do needlecraft while listening to the radio or classical music. How I used to enjoy sitting down and chatting while doing my embroidery. I think I will try and set up something similar as I definitely don't have a routine and it shows!!

Goodness, there are so many dratted flies around at the moment, one thing I don't like about summer.

    Have a nice afternoon all.

ETA: Kezlou, I forgot to say, how lovely your day sounds especially the visit to a proper tea room.

Sorry but when I read the bit about twisting your neck and being like something from the exorcist it made me lol!
Hope all is ok when you go for your MRI scan.

The memories of nylon have brought me out of lurkdom. I was born in 1960 and suffered with nylon in the 1970's. Did anyone else have nylon shirts for school. I shudder when I think about them, this was before I won my battle for a daily bath, both my parent s had grown up in homes without bathrooms and felt a bath once a week was quite plenty. They washed daily but they didn't wear nylon shirts uck! Worse still was the day I ironed mine (why?) and melted the inside of the collar. I wasn't allowed a new one, no money for it, so I sewed a piece of hair ribbon over the burn to protect my neck from the scratching and spent the rest of the school year trying not to let anyone see the mend whilst changing for PE!
This is a lovely thread, please keep posting everyone. :)

We were only allowed a bath and hair wash once a week and no argument. I asked many times for a bath more than once a week but my dad put his foot down and said no. :(
We weren't smelly or anything . We washed regularly, clean clothes etc.. I did have smelly feet though
I did have a green nylon dress when I was about 10-strange fabric, not nice at all.
I shared a bedroom with my 2 sisters.
Mum always had tea on the table a set time, when my dad got in from work and we had the same thing the same night of every week.
Sunday was a roast, monday was sausage and mash and cabbage ( when there wasn't any Sunday roast left, if there was some left we had 'warm up'),Tuesday we had bacon, or minced beef, mash and cabbage, Wednesday we had egg and chips and beans i think, Thursday we had chippy meal (just chips for us kids)-depending on money, if there wasnt enough money we had fish fingers and mash or whatever mum had in the house, Friday it was soup or sandwiches and Saturday Was sandwiches.
