But, having read on here numerous times that IFA's get better rates than going direct or even with HL I would just like to know how much difference do you think it should make 1%, 5% ?
Last one I did where someone obtained quotes from HL, I get 10% higher than HL (including my fee being almost £300 higher than their commission - both collected via the pension pot). For someone with no health issues I looked at a rate on Money Advice and HL and there was only a couple of pence (literally) between the 2 of them, the IFA was also the same.
The margins on unenhanced pensions are much smaller. So, that would not be atypical.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
So do you think it would be so negligible not to be worth worrying about?0

If you have checked MAS and you are sure you are not going to qualify for enhanced terms and the pot is not a big one then dont worry about it. (IFA fee typically gets smaller relative to the fund with larger pots whereas commission on non-advised cases remains constant).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I too had an experience with an IFA who to say the least didn't impress me. Since I started this topic and have watched and acted on all the info I have to report back.
As every one said that an IFA would get the best deal I checked,
I didn't have faith in anyone I didn't know, or trust as explained in an earlier post, sorry Dunston, I wanted to deal face to face, or stick with the pot holder.
Anyway, as this was not a large pot the differences aren't great.
The only advisor I tried was H&L, they assured me they would get better terms than I could directly, even after the enhanced payment option was detailed.
They failed to do that, their best was somewhere between 1-2% below that offered by Legal and General.
The annuity was taken up directly with L&G.
This is simply an end of thread info input, not advice for anyone else,;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
