I would keep at least one of the CC's.

I believe it takes 6 years for a debt or missed payment to be removed from your credit record (although I am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that). Have you checked with the credit reference agencies to make sure there is nothing else on your file that could be causing this?QUOTE]

Yes I do have one card that I currently use for emergencies and I just want to show the others as closed.

There is nothing else on my credit record that is odd - I've checked it already. Everything else is ok, fine and dandy in fact. That's why it's such a mystery that they have refused the mortgage!

BF is with Lloyds and HATES them. He wants to close the account, nevermind take out a mortgage with them :-) We are going to get a joint account probably with First Direct as we've heard good things about them.

Does your partner earn enough to get the mortgage in his sole name rather than trying to do it jointly? Just thought this maybe another angle to approach it from.

Yes he does earn enough, but as it is part of the divorce settlement i really need to be on the deeds to the house, and to be honest after going through a long and complicated divorce I don't want to put myself and my daughter in a position that might turn sour in a few years! Cynical I know, but you just never know do you?

  • So who's house was subject to the problem?

First Direct are pretty fussy and that's why they are the best.

You don't have to be on the mortgage to ensure you have an interest, get a decent solicitor.

    Hi Mel

I had replied to a previous thread you had started and I'm sorry to hear that you have not succeeded by this time. I can't remember exactly what we went through last time and I can't check as I have some clients due, but you have done the right thing now by oredring your credit files.

Abbey have done this a few times recently for some of my clients and I am very disappointed that people are still falling foul. It would be interesting to find out why they have turned you down at this stage. Please find out and let me know, as they have had some inconsistencies recently and I wounder if they are leaving it much later to do the credit score.

There are more high st lenders now offering "slight adverse" amongst their ranges, so I am sure there would be ways forward for you both.

    Good luck.

When I get the time I will look through and see your progress and if I can help further.
