SHL ability tests

Has anyone done the SHL ability tests prior to an interview before? It's a verbal reasoning and numerical I'm doing, not sure really what to expect and don't want to start it unprepared.

Thanks

Been a while, but I used to administer these tests. You can find sample questions here

The tests are timed and multiple choice. Best advice is go through them steadily and read the questions fully and carefully. If you get stuck on one, move on and go back if you have time. Don't worry if you don't get to the end, the tests are designed to assess the full range of abilities so few people get to the end of them.

The tests should only be used as a tool, not as a decider in a recruitment process. Some companies ignore that and use these basic tests as an initial sift.

there isn't a pass score as such. Results are measured against norm groups for different occupations/level of education/seniority etc.

    Best of luck!
  • Thanks for your advice! I'm glad you said that about not finishing as I only managed to complete 27 out of 30 which I was disappointed about. That was the verbal reasoning I still have the numerical one to do but really wanted to brush up on my maths skills first. I have a maths GCSE and always thought I was fairy good with maths but I did a numerical test for Arcadia and I find it really difficult.

I really hope they don't use this too much, they've already said they want to meet me and have given me a date for the interviews but no time yet. But I think it will all depend on how well I do in these tests, I really hope I've done okay :/
