The biggest issue here is the recent nature of the default and that it tips just over the £500 limit some lenders would disregard.

There will be ways to optimise your chances of success, the only one of these you can control is selection of a decent broker based upon recommendation/experience.

This will not be easy and as suggested, applying at random will not help your cause.

I am in a similar situ, my partner has a perfect credit score and i have two defaults against my name one which i didnt even no about from a mail order company from 2008 which is paid off as soon as i found out about it for 100 something stupid and the other was missed credit card payments which is now paid and settled. we are have first time buyers with a 20,000 deposit and my dad willing to guarantor us. Halifax declined but Lloyds are going to send my credit report away and take a second look since my dad would guarantor what do think the chances of this being successful would be.
